Finding creative inspiration and continuing to be inspired is key to a person working in a profession that demands creativity—AND—is especially important to a graphic designer in Regina. Graphic designers need continuing creative inspiration to perform at a high level, so finding it is at the top of most graphic designers priority list when taking on new projects.
Rule of thumb: listen to what you need as a person, do it and you will find creative inspiration! I find as a graphic designer in Regina, that there are quite a few things that can spark my creativity. All of them have to do with experiencing life and none of them have to do with being behind a computer at my desk.
Sometimes, I find the best way to find creative inspiration is unplugging. When I unplug, I:
Exercise (walk, run, stretch, play sports);
Enjoy a cup of tea/coffee outside (weather permitting);
Skim a magazine (normally home style related);
Read a book (usually business related);
Travel (mini-trips work well too!);
Browse Chapters;
Explore the Regina’s Farmers’ Market;
Attend an educational conference; or
Socialize.
My favourite mini-trips around Regina are: Fort Qu’Appelle, Moose Jaw and Lumsden. They are all beautiful and inspirational in their own, unique ways. Nothing is better than getting away for a day to one of these places and experiencing all they have to offer.
I also find music very inspirational and will listen to music doing most of the un-plugging items above.
But—of course—there is a TON of creative inspiration online as well. When I am in the mood, I have a bubble bath and browse on my phone through creative articles, social media platforms and educational sites.
There is a TON of great content online, and time is of the essence—so I have had to be selective of the sites that I choose (as a person could spend a whole day browsing on the internet and that is not ideal for me). Here is my “top” list for finding creative inspiration online:
Canva, Adobe and Creative Bloq’s Creative Articles – I will rotate through these articles and pull out new tips, tricks and inspiration.
Pinterest, Instagram and Etsy – I will browse through these platforms and see what others are doing.
Lynda.com — I love watching tutorials on this platform. This platform always helps the creative juices flow.
Inspiration is all around! And finding it, can be as simple as stepping away from “work” for a bit and living your life. Which is one of the perks to working in a creative field and being a graphic designer in Regina.
Whether you are an individual that works in the creative sector, or a small business owner in another line of work, creative inspiration is imperative to your business’s existence and growth (and projects). I hope this article helps you tap into yourself and assists you in finding creative inspiration!
